I sold my “old” laptop (15″ 3.5kg heavyweight) to my brother. It was too big, too heavy and lasted to short on its batteries (2.5 hours or so) to use it at school. My brother wanted a laptop and he bought it from me for a reasonable price.
What I wanted was a small, light and long lasting (as in battery time) notebook. Most PC notebooks like that start at like €1800. Luckily, there’s Apple who offers the excellent iBook which starts at about €1200. I have been infatuated with Macs for quite a while now but never had the opportunity to buy one, well here it was.
At the online Apple store I configured a nice system with a nice student discount:
- 12″ 1024×768 screen
- 800 Mhz G4 PowerPC processor
- 640mb RAM
- 60gb diskspace
- Bluetooth module
- Airport extreme card (64mbit/s wireless LAN)
- 2xUSB 2 1xFirewire 400
- ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 with 32 MB DDR SDRAM
- Combo (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
The battery lasts upto 6 hours and the whole weights not much more than 2.2 kg. It can take a couple of weeks until it’s delivered here, but I’m looking forward to it :)
